How to get to Belfast from Dublin: by car, train or bus

Belfast is the capital of Northern Ireland. Here you can visit the Titanic, learn more about the conflict between the UK and Ireland and eat the best fish and chips in Northern Ireland. From here you can take a trip to Game of Thrones locations, including the Giant’s Causeway.

The distance between Dublin and Belfast is 2 hours and costs £24.

To leave Dublin, you need to follow the N81 towards Belfast. Continue on the M1 motorway. Continue on the N1 and A1, where you will enter British territory. Take the second exit off the M1. Continue on the A12 and take exit B38, direction Grosvenor Road.

Frequency: 8 trains from 7am to 8pm.

To travel from Dublin to Belfast, you must buy your ticket with Irish Rail. The ticket costs €19 and the journey time is 2 hours.

Frequency: 8 buses per day.

Several companies operate this route: Dublin Coach, Aircoach, Translink and Bus Eireann. The bus is direct and takes about 2 hours to reach Belfast. The fare is around €10 each way. But they offer student discounts and a reduced price if you buy the return trip together.

  • Aircoach: Every hour from 1:30 to 23:30. Depending on the time of day, tickets range from €10 to €12. You can also pay in pounds.
  • Dublin Coach: Every hour from 5:30 to 20:30.
  • Bus Eireann: From 1am to 11pm.
  • Translink: Tickets cost more than 15€ at the station. My recommendation is to buy them online if possible.
